The Intro/Yap.

phew. 😮‍💨

Is there really an “the end of the season” phase when you’re in beer league? I’d say no because beer league never sleeps BUT I am currently on a summer break. If you follow my YouTube, you'll know I love a good yap. This newsletter is no different. Here we go, less yapping, more recapping..

May Recap.

  • What I focused on: my wrist shot. Damn. No-one warned me about this one. As always, I have put my progress on my socials for everyone to judge me. Because why not. Jokes aside, one of the things I love about posting my journey is that people will tell you what you’re doing wrong. So apparently one of this, which could well be a game changer when it comes to my stickhandling and shooting, is that I have my arms too close to my body. I tried moving them further away and I realised I may have unlocked something. Stay tuned for the verdict because I will be talking about this on my YouTube channel.

  • One win for this month: I have officially participated in ONE.WHOLE.HOUR (!) of scrimmage. What? Me? ok, I wasn’t sure what I was doing but damn. I still remember when we were standing for the face off and I had no idea where to stand…but a win is a win! Going from being scared to participate to "OK, I kind of know what I'm doing...I'll try" feels like a huge milestone. 🎉

  • The reality check: Because everyone knows I like to be real…one thing I am still struggling with is comparing myself to others. Especially, when lots of others have started documenting their journey online, it’s hard not to. When I do, I try and remind myself to focus on my own goals. The funny thing is that comparison never makes me skate better, shoot better, or enjoy hockey more.

  • Current hockey journey obsession: Other than my chocolate milk after practice, which is now part of the brand and hockey routine (thank you to the beloved subbie who recommended this), I started rockin’ under eye patches the morning after hockey because I don’t really need to explain. Late night adult hockey and late nights…morning survival kit at the ready 👀

The Final Yap.

Hockey is still teaching me new things every week, whether that's wrist shots, scrimmages, or simply learning not to compare my chapter one to someone else's chapter ten.

There you have it.

Thank you for reading. Appreciate you 🤍
